‘Dude, are you ready for an adventure?’, or something along those lines, were the words of my DoP friend Edgar Dubrovskiy when he first got in touch about sending production my way for this shoot.
And an adventure it was indeed. Two weeks in Kazakhstan, filming the wilderness of the steppes, life within a local community based around a holy mountain and led by a charismatic old woman, and various rituals & animal sacrifices. Amongst various things that happened on this shoot: I got slapped in the face with freshly cut out lamb lungs, and I also fell through a trap door one floor down into the cellar of an old house. One to look out for!
