Another one of my favourite shoots still to this day, partly because it ended up being pretty much a road trip with one of my very my best friends, DoP Ronan Simon, who was shooting it. We were filming in New Orleans for the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, investigating its outcome on the local jazz scene (many musicians lost their homes and had to re-locate), and believe it or not another hurricane came along right in the middle of the shoot. We had to evacuate to Nashville – that’s normally a 6 or 7h drive, it took us 25h!! – and stayed there for about a week, until NOLA basically opened again to the population. We ended up meeting a lot of New Orleans musicians in Nashville, who had moved there after Hurricane Katrina, so filmed a lot of interviews there too, which turned out very interesting.
