MIKU was shot in early 2011 in just 4 weeks, and is an excellent & unconventional black comedy about a bicycle cop who goes slightly bonkers after a head injury. It is very much a 21st century film, both in its subject (social media is heavily used in the story line) and form as well, with helmet cams and the likes being used on several sequences. BAFTA winning director Stuart Urban was the maestro, and had surrounded himself with an excellent team. In my department, Simon Batchelar was once again in charge of all things boom. Lead actor Kevin Bishop was excellent fun on set and unsurprisingly had quickly worked out cunning imitations of most crew members that he’d practice in-between takes. We shot some pretty exciting riot scenes on the exterior set, formerly of ‘Family Affairs’ glory, at Wimbledon Studios, where the FX guys did an excellent job.
